Your organisation’s goals

Core Services: Climate Resilience through Human & Systemic Innovation

Island Pathways Consultancy provides strategic “Business Growth and Repair” services that foster economic resilience against climate instability. Our flagship program, Especially Local: Pathway to Self-Reliance, specializes in a unique market niche: restoring and professionalizing failed or struggling enterprises. Our brand focuses on using traditional skills to develop innovative products from locally sourced resources. We aim to protect and promote the cultural knowledge of local artisans and producers by empowering them with our 8-System Business Framework.

We recognize that a major barrier to Pacific innovation is the ‘pitching gap’ —a lack of confidence that prevents local entrepreneurs from speaking out. Through our “Finding Yourself” foundational training, we bridge this gap, helping individuals move from the silence of failure to confident advocacy.

Our services focus on:

Business Repair & Recovery: Auditing and restructuring failing enterprises to withstand environmental shocks.

Cultural Innovation: Empowering artisans in soap making and weaving to transform traditional knowledge into sustainable, market-ready products.

Resource Stewardship: Promoting “Slow and Sustainable” production to reduce carbon footprints and protect biodiversity.

By combining spiritual stewardship with professional systems, we ensure Vanuatu’s entrepreneurs have the voice and structure to lead the Pacific’s climate response.

Describe your innovation

One of the most critical innovations implemented by Island Pathways Consultancy is our “Business Repair & Resilience Blueprint.” Unlike traditional models that focus on starting new ventures, our innovation lies in the systematic auditing and “repair” of existing, struggling local enterprises—particularly in the soap-making and weaving sectors—to make them climate-resilient.

This innovation addresses environmental challenges through three specific mechanisms:

Systemic “Shock-Proofing”: We utilize an 8-System Framework to build a business “skeleton” that is specifically designed to survive and recover from the environmental shocks frequent in our region, such as Category 5 cyclones. This ensures that local economic infrastructure does not collapse when the environment is in crisis.

Resource Sovereignty: Our model shifts production toward “Slow and Sustainable” methodologies. By innovating products from 100% locally sourced, renewable resources, we eliminate the carbon footprint of imported raw materials and incentivize the protection of Vanuatu’s natural biodiversity.

The “Pitching Gap” Solution: We have innovated a “Human System” module called Finding Yourself. This addresses a core cultural barrier in PICTs: the lack of confidence to speak out. By training artisans to confidently “pitch” their sustainable innovations, we ensure that indigenous environmental solutions reach global markets rather than remaining silent and unused.

Relevance for PICTs:
In Pacific Island Countries and Territories, the economy and the environment are inseparable. When a business fails due to a climate event, it isn’t just a financial loss; it is a loss of cultural knowledge and local sovereignty. Our “Repair” model is uniquely relevant for PICTs because it treats business as an ecosystem. It empowers our people to move from “silent survival” to becoming vocal, structured stewards of their own resources, ensuring that Pacific-led innovation is as resilient as the people who create it.

How is this solution innovative?

Our innovation lies in the “Business Repair Shop” model. While most consultants focus on new startups or high-growth tech, Island Pathways Consultancy targets the “forgotten” market: failed or struggling traditional enterprises. We treat a business as a living ecosystem that can be restored through our unique 8-System Framework. The innovation is twofold: Systemic Restoration: We provide a “Business Skeleton” (Systems 1-8) to artisans in soap making and weaving. We don’t just teach a craft; we “repair” the administrative and financial structures of their businesses to make them climate-resilient and professionally sovereign. Bridging the “Pitching Gap”: We address a deep-seated cultural barrier through our “Finding Yourself” foundation. We recognize that innovation is often stifled by a lack of confidence. By training entrepreneurs to overcome the silence of failure and “talk out” their ideas, we turn traditional knowledge into vocal, marketable innovation. By blending professional training (Cert IV TAE) with spiritual stewardship and local storytelling, we innovate the very way Pacific entrepreneurs see themselves. We transform “vulnerable” producers into structured, confident leaders who can pitch sustainable solutions to a global audience.

How can the innovation be replicated and scaled up in other PICTs?

To replicate and scale the Island Pathways model across the Pacific, we focus on a “Train-the-Trainer” approach that treats Business Repair as a professional trade.

Institutional Partnerships: We can partner with regional bodies like the Pacific Community (SPC) or local Chambers of Commerce to integrate the 8-System Framework into national vocational curricula. This standardizes “Business Stewardship” across different islands.

The “Repair” Franchise Model: Instead of a top-down NGO approach, we can scale via a social franchise. Local leaders in other PICTs can be certified as “Principal Consultants,” using our Master Manual and “Finding Yourself” modules to bridge their local confidence gaps and revitalize their own traditional craft sectors.

Financing Resilience: Scaling requires move-away from one-off grants toward Resilience Funds. These financing models would specifically target the “Repair” of businesses damaged by climate events, providing the capital needed to restructure rather than just replace.

Capacity Requirements: Success depends on digital literacy and the Cert IV TAE qualification. By building a regional network of certified strategic coaches, we ensure that PICTs have the internal human capacity to lead their own sustainable economic recovery without external dependency.

How is the solution cost‑effective and affordable in the context of Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs)?

Cost-Effectiveness & Affordability: A Model for Accountability

Yes, our solution is highly cost-effective because it prioritizes restoration over replacement. However, we define affordability through accountability, not handouts.

From the end-user perspective:

Investment Over Incentives: Unlike projects that offer “free” training and cash incentives, we charge a modest, accessible fee. “Free” training often hinders innovation because participants lack “skin in the game.” By investing in their own journey, our entrepreneurs become accountable for their Return on Investment (ROI), ensuring they put skills into immediate use.

Teaching to Fish: Many projects end the moment external funding stops. Especially Local was born out of the gaps left by these short-term “empowerment” projects. Our model is built to survive without donor dependency because it teaches artisans to generate their own capital through 8-System Management.

Low-Input Production: By shifting to locally sourced materials, we eliminate expensive import costs. This keeps overhead low, allowing the business to sustain itself indefinitely.

We don’t give people fish; we train them to build the boat and own the market. This makes our solution the most sustainable and affordable long-term option for Pacific communities.

Locations (country, island, or community) where this solution has been piloted and/or implemented

Location: Port Vila, Efate Island, Vanuatu Implementation & Pilot Details: The solution is headquartered in Port Vila and was developed to address the economic and environmental landscape of the Shefa Province. Pilot Launch: The program was officially implemented with a founding cohort on April 7, 2026, in Port Vila. This cohort serves as the primary test group for the 8-System Business Framework and the “Finding Yourself” confidence-building module. Community & Corporate Integration: We have integrated the program within the Port Vila City Council of Women (PVCCW) network, specifically targeting women artisans.

Additionally, the pilot includes private sector participation, such as employees from JFK Services, demonstrating the model’s versatility across different business types. The “Master Manual” Hub: The solution operates through Island Pathways Consultancy, serving as a “Business Repair Shop” for local MSMEs that have struggled with stability following environmental shocks. Strategic Mentorship: The framework has been refined under the direct mentorship of the Director of Breadfruit Consulting, ensuring the consultancy meets professional standards while remaining deeply rooted in the Pacific’s unique business environment. By testing the model in Port Vila with both individual artisans and corporate employees, we are proving that “Business Repair” is a scalable solution for the entire Vanuatu economy.
