Climate Resilient Communities

Brief overview

Climate Resilient Communities (CRC), in partnership with Fresh Approach and Grassroots Ecology, ran a rain garden project in East Palo Alto focused on flood prevention. The initiative helped 25 households manage the impacts of flooding in a FEMA-designated flood zone area near the bay.

The project recognised that while individual rain gardens can protect single homes, flooding is a community-wide challenge requiring scalable, community-led solutions. Rain gardens were identified as an attainable, sustainable, and effective approach to building neighbourhood resilience.

How can the innovation be replicated and scaled up in other PICTs?

The partnership produced a project guide setting out recommendations and key takeaways to help other community-based organisations replicate and scale similar initiatives.
