The Pacific Innovation Forum for Climate and Environment (PIFCE) 1st - 3rd July, 2026

Brief overview:

The Global Youth Biodiversity Network Pacific Chapter (GYBN Pacific) is the regional arm of the Global Youth Biodiversity Network — a global coalition recognised as the official coordination platform for youth participation under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Launched in 2025, the Chapter represents a major milestone in institutionalising youth participation in biodiversity governance across the Pacific.

GYBN Pacific is a youth-led network bringing together young leaders across Pacific Island countries to engage in biodiversity policy, lead conservation action, and amplify Pacific voices in regional and global decision-making. It provides a structured platform for capacity building and advocacy, aligning with national and regional biodiversity priorities.

In 2026, GYBN Pacific is strengthening its operational presence following an initial regional planning phase convened under PIRT, where Pacific youth engaged directly with biodiversity leaders and policymakers to define governance structures, priorities, and collaborative pathways.

The network plays a critical role in:

  • Strengthening youth leadership and capacity
  • Bridging community action and global policy processes
  • Promoting traditional knowledge and inclusive approaches
  • Supporting regional coordination on biodiversity priorities

Your organisation’s goals

The Pacific Innovation Forum on Climate and Environment (PIFCE) presents a strategic opportunity to elevate youth voices within regional biodiversity and climate policy discussions and demonstrate how youth-led action contributes directly to implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

Ms. Claire Oiire offers a unique perspective at the intersection of youth leadership, biodiversity policy, and community-driven innovation. Her participation will contribute to elevating Pacific youth voices in climate and biodiversity innovation discussions, showcasing practical pathways for youth engagement in NBSAP implementation, and strengthening intergenerational and cross-sectoral collaboration.

Our goals at PIFCW are to showcase the establishment, vision, and mission of GYBN Pacific, highlighting youth-led biodiversity initiatives across Pacific Island Countries and Territories. We wish to demonstrate youth contributions to biodiversity governance, policy processes, and community action, and illustrate how youth engagement supports implementation of NBSAPs and GBF targets. We aim to also strengthen dialogue between youth, policymakers, and practitioners attending PIFCE, and promote pathways for youth participation in regional and global biodiversity processes, including CBD COPs, PIRT, and national frameworks.
