The Pacific Innovation Forum for Climate and Environment (PIFCE) 1st - 3rd July, 2026

Brief overview

Natures Farm Fresh Supplies is a youth-led, “climate-smart” agribusiness based in Ba, Fiji, specializing in high-value apiculture. Led by a Master of Science candidate and 2024 GIST Investment Awardee and 2026 Women Apiculture Farmer of the Year Fiji, we transform raw honey surplus into premium, scientifically-backed superfoods, including Honey Sticks, Creamed Honey, and Infused Honey. By utilizing automated “zero-contact” technology and maintaining strict moisture controls, we bridge the gap between traditional farming and luxury wellness markets. Our mission is to stabilize the local honey industry, provide skilled “green” jobs, and promote biodiversity through ethical, high-yield beekeeping.

Your organisation’s goals

Natures Farm Fresh Supplies operates as a “Nature-Positive” circular economy hub that addresses climate resilience through scientific apiculture. Our core environmental services include:Climate-Smart Pollination & Biodiversity: We manage a network of genetically superior F1 Italian Queen Bees, which are 3x more productive and more disease-resistant, ensuring robust pollination for local flora and food crops to maintain ecosystem resilience.”Dead Stock” Waste Mitigation: We solve the industry’s “Dead Stock Crisis” by using MSc-level moisture control and automated technology to transform unstable, high-moisture raw honey—which would otherwise ferment and go to waste—into shelf-stable, value-added superfoods.Sustainable Hospitality Solutions: We replace plastic-heavy portion cups in Fiji’s tourism sector with travel-ready honey sticks, transitioning toward biodegradable films and premium glass to reduce the carbon footprint of the luxury supply chain.Reforestation & Education: We actively promote the planting of nectar-rich trees within our youth outgrower clusters, combining carbon sequestration with technical training in climate-resilient hive management.By fusing Masters-level research with automation, we transform volatile agricultural commodities into sustainable, zero-contact luxury products.

Describe your innovation

Our featured innovation is the Automated “Zero-Contact” Sachet and Moisture-Control System, a technological leap that transforms volatile raw honey into climate-resilient, high-value “Honey Sticks”.Addressing Climate and Environmental ChallengesIn Fiji and the wider Pacific, extreme weather events and high humidity often lead to a “Dead Stock Crisis,” where honey harvests have moisture content exceeding 20%, causing rapid fermentation and total product loss.

Our innovation addresses this through:

Scientific Stabilization: Using Masters-level research and precision moisture control, we stabilize honey below 18% moisture, preserving medicinal enzyme integrity and preventing food waste.

Waste Reduction: By converting unstable raw honey into shelf-stable sachets, we ensure zero-waste production even during difficult flowering seasons.Plastic Substitution: These 10g honey sticks are designed to replace plastic-heavy, single-use portion cups and imported sugar sachets in the tourism sector. We are currently transitioning these to biodegradable films to further reduce the carbon footprint of the Pacific supply chain.

Relevance for Pacific Island Countries (PICTs)This innovation is uniquely suited for PICTs for several reasons:
Import Substitution: Most Pacific resorts rely on imported, highly processed condiments. Our technology allows local farmers to meet international hospitality hygiene standards, keeping economic value within the islands.Disaster Resilience: The portability of honey sticks makes them an ideal energy-dense, shelf-stable food source during post-cyclone recovery, where traditional glass packaging is prone to breakage and contamination.Nature-Positive Economy: By creating a high-margin market ($14/pack) for raw honey, we incentivize rural youth to maintain bee populations, which are critical for the pollination and biodiversity of fragile island ecosystems

How is this solution is innovative?

Our solution is innovative because it shifts the Fijian apiculture model from low-value commodity farming to high-precision bio-science and automated manufacturing. While the local industry traditionally struggles with “Dead Stock”—raw honey that is slow-moving, high in moisture, and prone to price crashes—we utilize Masters-level research to engineer a shelf-stable, medical-grade superfood.Key innovative pillars include:The “Science-to-Shelf” Advantage: We apply specialized moisture control (strictly below 18%) and cold-processing to preserve bioactive enzymes, a technical standard rarely met by traditional competitors.Automated “Zero-Contact” Technology: We are the first in Fiji’s Western Division to deploy multi-lane sachet automation, eliminating the “packaging barrier” that previously saw local honey rejected by luxury procurement managers due to hygiene concerns.Format Disruption: By introducing portable Honey Sticks and Silk-Texture Creamed Honey, we have created high-velocity, travel-ready formats that replace imported synthetic sweeteners and plastic-heavy portion cups in the $5M luxury wellness corridor. This fusion of climate-smart science and industrial efficiency transforms a volatile raw material into a high-margin, internationally competitive luxury asset.

How can the innovation be replicated and scaled up in other PICTs?

The “Honey-Tech Fiji” model is highly replicable across PICTs through a three-pillared scaling strategy:Institutional Partnerships: Regional success relies on “Hub-and-Spoke” clusters where a central processing unit, led by technical experts, provides quality assurance and automated packaging for local youth outgrower networks. Partnering with regional bodies like the Fiji Beekeepers Association ensures standardized climate-resilient hive management.Financing Models: Scaling requires a blend of equity and grant funding, such as the Young Entrepreneurship Scheme (YES), to bypass high-interest debt. This capital must be prioritized for automation technology—specifically multi-lane sachet machines and moisture control equipment—to overcome the “packaging barrier”.Capacity Requirements: Replicability depends on specialized leadership, ideally an MSc-level candidate or qualified trainer, to manage biological IP like F1 Queen Bee grafting and medicinal potency preservation. Staff must be trained in HACCP-compliant “zero-contact” hygiene and preventive maintenance of specialized machinery. This framework transforms honey from a volatile commodity into a shelf-stable, high-margin export, providing a blueprint for Pacific-wide import substitution.

How is the solution cost‑effective and affordable in the context of Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs)?

Our solution is highly cost-effective because it prioritizes value-addition over bulk volume, ensuring profitability even for small-scale operations. For MSMEs and Communities: By setting a strategic “gate-price” floor of $20/kg, we eliminate the “Price Trap” where bulk honey crashes to $10/kg, ensuring farm viability and dignified livelihoods for rural families.High-Margin Economics: Our model achieves a 74% average margin. This allows MSMEs to recover initial technology investments quickly; we anticipate a breakeven point within just 14 months of operationalizing equipment.Affordability for End-Consumers: We utilize Strategic Pricing Tiering to ensure accessibility. While “Honey Sticks” and “Creamed Honey” serve the luxury market at $14–$15, we offer Honey Bars at a $3.00 penetration price to provide affordable, high-quality nutrition for local schools and gyms.Operational Efficiency: Automated “zero-contact” filling reduces manual labor bottlenecks and product waste, lowering the “cost to serve” over time. This dual-track approach ensures the technology is a sustainable investment for producers while keeping the final product accessible to diverse Pacific Islander socio-economic groups.
