How is traditional knowledge being passed down to younger generations in your community?
Junior Tumu1 Comment-
Traditional knowledge in our community is passed down mainly through oral teaching and active participation in cultural practices. Elders play a central role by sharing stories, clan histories, and customary laws during gatherings, ceremonies, and daily activities. Young people learn by observing and helping with gardening, hunting, fishing, and traditional dances. Knowledge is also transferred during hausman and hausmeri sessions, where practical skills, values, and cultural responsibilities are taught. In some areas, churches, schools, and community groups help reinforce cultural learning through cultural days, performances, and language programs. Although modern influences are strong, families and clan leaders continue to ensure that important customs, traditional practices, and land-related knowledge are preserved and passed on to the next generation.
