Hi, All
Greetings and a warm welcome to the Pacific ClimateLaunchpad community! 🇻🇺
I sincerely appreciate the invitation and the opportunity to be part of this exciting innovation and entrepreneurship platform.
My name is Fred Kalkaua, and I proudly represent EnviroCrete Pacific, a climate innovation startup based in Vanuatu.
Our mission is to transform industrial waste into innovative, sustainable construction materials that contribute to a greener, stronger and more climate-resilient Pacific.
At EnviroCrete Pacific, our innovation is built around three key pillars:
1. Circular Economy – Turning Waste into Value
We convert industrial waste, including recycled polypropylene plastic and nickel slag, into valuable construction materials. Rather than allowing these resources to become environmental waste, we give them a second life through innovative construction technologies.
2. Climate Innovation – Reducing Carbon Emissions
Through our partnership with Enviromesh Australia, where we are the exclusive supplier in Vanuatu, we transform recycled industrial polypropylene plastic waste into Macro Synthetic Fibre. This provides an alternative to conventional steel mesh reinforcement in horizontal concrete construction, including footpaths, pavements, roads and concrete slabs.
We also partner with Canenviro Australia, exploring the reuse of nickel slag waste from New Caledonia’s nickel industry to develop innovative geopolymer concrete solutions for the Pacific.
By combining geopolymer technology with recycled synthetic fibres, we aim to reduce reliance on conventional Portland cement and steel reinforcement while targeting an approximately 8% reduction in carbon emissions from geopolymer technology, with additional potential savings through fibre integration.
3. Pacific Resilience – Building Infrastructure That Lasts
Our combined technology aims to produce stronger, more durable concrete, targeting compressive strengths of 60 MPa and beyond. It is designed to improve resistance to saltwater penetration, chemical exposure and corrosion, particularly in harsh marine and tropical environments.
With appropriate engineering design, exposure conditions and maintenance, our ambition is to help extend infrastructure service life towards 100 years.
Our Vision
We believe the Pacific should not simply be a consumer of imported construction technologies but should become a leader in developing sustainable solutions using locally available resources, regional partnerships and circular economy principles.
Our vision is simple:
Turn waste into value. Reduce carbon emissions. Build infrastructure that lasts.
I look forward to connecting, sharing ideas and collaborating with fellow innovators, entrepreneurs, investors and climate leaders across the Pacific.
Together, let’s build a greener, stronger and more climate-resilient Pacific! 🇻🇺🌏
